Our Global Impact

We have built three schools in remote villages across Sierra Leone accommodating almost 1500 children as well as illiterate adults, the introduction of solar-powered lighting has been life-changing for these communities, supplying artificial light during the evenings and night.
We are in the process of building four more schools for 2020 in both Sierra Leone and Madagascar. Each school is community-based, so between 10 and 14 villages can attend each as they are built in a central location and therefore are accessible. Lessons cover environmental issues as well as protection of wildlife, hygiene, health, and contraception. The adult literacy rate is 41 percent compared with a global 80 percent.
We are working with Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary sponsoring two chimpanzees at present. Annual school trips for selected school children to the sanctuary teach the importance of habitat and wildlife preservation, discouraging the support of bushmeat and wildlife captivity as pets.the support of bush meat and wildlife captivity as pets.
Penpal exchanges have been setup between three primary schools in East Sussex, UK – Hamsey, Barcombe and Plumpton with Robonka, Magbakai, and Matoko in Sierra Leone.
We are currently working with nearly 700 ladies including the FGM (female genital mutilation) cutters known as seweis. The women have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) by thumbprint. Men support this wholeheartedly. As part of our program, we will teach adults to read and write English. An incredible achievement in that they have agreed to swap their knives for agricultural tools and seeds for a different form of income. The children will be checked monthly by a nurse, to ensure no cutting has taken place. The parents and women have signed by thumbprint, a Memorandum of Understanding. These communities have also agreed not to force child brides.
We have purchased land in Kifuruka Village in the Kabarole district of Uganda where we intend to build a small self-sustainable lodge where profits will help the community, to include widows, orphans, and local families. We will provide local employment and plant trees to encourage the wildlife population.
You can visit one of the communities and volunteer your time and life skills. You can teach without qualifications. If this sounds like something you’re interested in, get in touch at firstname.lastname@example.org

You can sponsor an orphan for just £15 a month. This will feed a family who will house an orphan in their own home. This money is enough to sustain the family with rice and also provide a school uniform and bag for school.
You can adopt a Chimpanzee for just £100 a year. Adopting a chimpanzee is a unique way to support Tacugama’s work and can make a great gift for family and friends.
